Single and double fish fossil plates from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. The fish species on these plates are known as Knightia. An extinct genus of clupeid bony fish that lived in freshwater lakes and rivers of North America. They are related to current day herring and sardines. Being a smaller fish they likely fed on algae and diatoms, as well as insects and occasionally smaller fish. These fossil have amazing detail showing both scale and bone structures. A great intro to the amazing world of fossils for collectors of any age.
